You may remember the coolest whale encounter on video from late January, when Tiffany and Todd happened to have the good fortune of seeing a large pod of humpback whales swim by them on a deep dive off of Maui.
They dive professionally, so they’re out there quite often in the blue seas of the Pacific.
Here’s a flashback to the large pod of humpbacks in January.
As someone who loves the sea, loves nature and enjoys diving, I was impressed, not to mention highly jealous. I’ve kayaked with a southern right whale in Namibia (the whale swam with us for around an hour), and I snorkeled with a whale shark in Mozambique. But diving with a whale? Wow, are you kidding me? Diving with a large pod of whales? What a cool experience and one that I dream of doing some day.
After posting the Maui whale experience video, I asked Tiffany about the the dive and wondered how often they’ve seen whales like that. They were diving at around 180 feet – a depth that requires special equipment and top notch diving skills – but still, she said that seeing the whales was “possibly a once in a lifetime event.”
Guess what? Tiffany and Todd just had another encounter with a few humpback whales. Once again you can hear the whales in the background as well as the divers calling each other. What an absolutely beautiful experience. Here are a few screen shots of the experience followed by the video. Impressive.
I want to be reincarnated as a whale.
Closed circuit rebreathers and, by their voice, heliox or trimix. Wow, that’s some serious diving, there…
