Stephen Colbert on the two kittens that shut down the NYC subway (video)

Stephen Colbert discusses, and welcomes on his show, the two kittens that shut down the New York City subway last week for a good two hours.

Colbert goes on an extended rant about the one NYC mayoral candidate, a Republican of course, who said he’d have killed the kittens and kept the trains running.

Am I wrong, or would every sane person have shut down the subway rather than run over the kittens?

It’s not a matter of sanity, it’s a matter of humanity.

  2. paulabflat says:

    that explains this.

  3. Gamer says:

Cats have nine lives so just keep the trains running.

  4. Abra says:

MIght interest everyone to see this, the guy who rescued the kittens posted pics on reddit of Colbert’s staff going nuts over the kittens in the green room:

  5. emjayay says:

Well let’s all hope this is what Joe Lhota is best known for and he keeps on saying stuff like this.

  6. karmanot says:

“Stop it for a gaggle of CONServatives like Bachmann, frothy, Palin” No, keep on moving.

  7. judybrowni says:

‘Ferals may be breeding indiscrimtel,y but depending on the pound and the media invovled, it’s likelier than not those kittens will be adopted.

  8. Only someone without a soul would let the kittens be run over.

  9. In theory it’s one thing, but could you, if you were driving that train, or watching, let those cute kittens die? So yes, sane people would have shut it down.

  10. Hue-Man says:

From coast to coast to coast, local media are reporting stories like this: “Cats are cute and cuddly, but in Nova Scotia there are too many of them. The provincial animal shelter is busting at the seams, too many cats that need good homes.”

“Strays are numbering in the thousands, but while adoption rates are steady, there are 25 per cent more cats than last year.” And to which “farm” do you think the good people at the SPCA send the cats that can’t be placed when their cages are overflowing?

  11. arcadesproject says:

Look, the damn train can just wait a few minutes for jebus sake. It’s not all that important that it stay exactly on time. It ain’t no emergency vehicle, it’s just a rain.

  12. Thom Allen says:

Stop a subway for kittens? Yes, almost refexively. Stop it for a gaggle of CONServatives like Bachmann, frothy, Palin and the like pontificating near the tracks? I’d really have to think about that. Maybe till just after the 10:03 blew through the station.

  13. BeccaM says:

My father wouldn’t…– Yeah, right, you said ‘sane.’

I’d also add “anybody with a heart and a teaspoon of human empathy.”

  14. cole3244 says:

hopefully kittens wouldn’t be the only creatures we would do this for.
they say you can judge a society by the way it treats its elders and helpless animals.

  15. Monoceros Forth says:

“It is said that in Ulthar, which lies beyond the river Skai, no man may kill a cat; and this I can verily believe as I gaze upon him who sitteth purring before the fire. For the cat is cryptic, and close to strange things which men cannot see.”
